Chapter 39. A Brother’s Blood Is Salvation
“I’ll take my chances.”
She heard him and knew she had to stop him. He would kill himself otherwise, and she would never forgive herself if he did. It was time to come out of the shadows and confront him. She appeared by the doorstep and found herself doing the oddest of things. She knocked. It was something she had never had to do in her existence. She was always either invited in or found a way to persuade her chosen meal to come over for dinner.
Zhang opened the door and gazed upon her. He tried to glance into her eyes to read her, but Lilith refused. His quick breath signified his uneasiness about inviting her in, and he almost closed the door on her once she locked eyes with Alec.
“You’ve got a lot of explaining to do, Lilith.”
