Chapter 42. Preparing for the Worst

“What happened? What came over me? Why couldn’t I stop?”

“It is not common in vampires. The fledglings Dracula sired are controlled by him. But you are a special case because my only fledgling—your brother—sired you. This is unprecedented, and we don’t want to leave fate up to the gods because all of my children will suffer. I will not have that.”

“So I should not have sired him?” Alec asked in anger. 

She was holding back information—that much he knew, but he didn’t think it was this much. He wondered why she wouldn’t sire Armand—now the partial truth was coming out! She was just as damned as he was, if not more! That hellion was incredibly selfish, and nothing would please him more than to take Armand and leave her. But something was holding him back. He needed her. She knew how to hunt, and now, with Armand’s blood lust to deal with, he wondered how much help he could be to his brother without her. 

Lilith mentioned werewolves, and though Alec did not b
