Chapter 7. The Party
Eva rode to the school with Kate. She didn’t have many close friends growing up, as she always found it difficult to bond with others. Her parents were the only two people besides Savannah with whom she felt at ease.
Kate talked non-stop about the Saturday night party and who was going to be there. The more she talked, the more Eva wanted to go. She usually hated going anywhere at night; that was why she so easily agreed to Joanna’s and Jimmy’s ‘no going out after dark’ rule. But now, as Kate went on about the party, Eva was imagining a hundred different ways in which she could sneak out of the house. For a second, she forgot that she owned the house and Joanna was the housekeeper.
Eva shook her head; it was strange. It was like someone else was trying to force their thoughts onto her head.
