Chapter 6. The Escape
Giovanna no longer went downstairs to buy the newspaper while Freya was there. From the flat window, I watched her look at the time all the time. And then leave. Only then would she come down.
After two months, Freya never turned up again. Giovanna saw in the newspaper that she had married a young billionaire CEO and found out Elena's age from the advert. She didn't look any older than herself, as she had once said. There was no photo of her husband, as the column explained that he was very aloof with the press. A month later she separated, but Giovanna hasn't heard from her since.
Giovanna, thinking it was a secret, made friends with the doorman. She didn't tell him what happened to her inside the flat, but he treated her so well that she began to dream of having a life with him. She didn't love him. Giovanna didn't believe that love existed.
