Chapter 8. The Effect of the Forest
As the niece left, the nurse continued to guide them to the asylum director's office. He welcomed them with the same respect he showed to everyone who came to him, whatever the reason, and invited them to sit down.
Once everyone was seated, the director offered them something to drink, but they refused and Brendon decided to get straight to the point.
"Sir, I'm here because I'm willing to pay Mr. Miles' expenses."
The director stared at him in amazement. Of all the subjects he thought those young people might be interested in, this was not one.
"Who are you, sir? Any of his relatives?"
"No... But now that you've said it, I'm curious... Where are his relatives?"
"They were searched thoroughly, but it seems they didn't care about Mr. Miles' fate. He wasn't a person... He took a lot of actions that alienated his family..."
