Carlos made a dramatic pause before putting on a sad and shocked expression that was Oscar-worthy. He pretended to catch himself. “Of course,” he nodded. “It’s perfectly safe.”
Fiona took a look at her own room… at her kidnapper’s house and felt a wave of nostalgia. She wanted to return to the Leopard Seal’s room. She wanted to curl up in his large bed and stick her face in his pillows and sheets. But this was better for her at the moment.
The past few days had been rather complicated. Spending time in another room, different from the one she got as a hostage with a job, had put her in a mood. At first, she had not understood what it meant, but then he had asked about her mother, and she found herself thinking about how her mother was doing. Although she was not very close to her mother, she still cared deeply about the woman. She cared when her mother was hurt and wanted to do everything in her power to protect her.
