Chapter 254. I’d Like to See You Try

Carlos grabbed the fingers that held his waistcoat. They were warm and slender. He made sure to look her in the eyes when he spoke next.

“I did,” he whispered with a cruel stare straight into her beautiful eyes. “How did that turn out for me.”

“How can I get you to trust me,” she pleaded. “Again, only for a few minutes. I’m certain that if I can get you to believe me for only a few minutes, I can get you to trust me again.”

Carlos leaned in closer and smiled at her, “fool me once.”

He saw the slightest shiver run through her body. He wasn’t quite sure if it was the proximity that caused that. He entertained the idea that this was somehow a fantasy that she had had and that the realization of it was what had elicited that reaction in her.
