Chapter 15
Nate chuckled as the door opened, and Fred walked in, his daughter by his side. Fred looked back, wondering who he could be smiling at. Nate set the book in his hands down and beckoned to him to move over.
“Come on in, Fred. I wasn’t laughing at you.”
Fred nodded and moved forward, holding his daughter by the hand. Nate gestured for the two of them to sit down after exchanging pleasantries.
“Child, what is your name?” he smiled at Fred’s daughter.
The eight-year-old had probably been told what to do as she got down from the chair she was perched on and bowed. “Caitlin, my lord.”
Nate laughed at how serious she was and beckoned her to have a seat again. He knew the child’s name but only wanted her to feel welcome before he started discussing politics with her father, and she felt ignored.
