Chapter 8. Nightmares, Lies, and First Love
I try to close my eyes and sleep, but every time I do, the image from my childhood starts to haunt me. The burning smell, the fire burning and destroying everything- it was all too much.
But because I am all alone now, I let my tears fall, rocking my body while holding tightly onto my pillow. We all have demons inside of us- dark demons of the past still haunt us, and I am no exception to that. But just like so many others, I keep them hidden inside of me- because I am afraid of the darkness inside of me too, my broken dark soul.
After all, no one really likes a broken person- they’re too messy, too hard to deal with. Exhausted after crying, my eyes start to feel heavy, and I slumber off. I am awoken by my phone ringing as I answer the call, still half-sleep.
“What?”
“Scarlet?” A familiar voice calls my name.
“This is her.” I whisper, “Who are you?”
“Your fake boyfriend who has been standing at your door for quite some while.” He answers.
