Chapter 153. Beneath the Assassin's Cloak
"Fiona, are you okay?" Anneth repeated.
For a moment, Fiona just stood there, her body shaking. But she managed to gather her courage. She watched as Anneth walked quickly towards her. Then a sudden wave of emotion swept through Fiona's veins.
"Are you insane?" she cried. "Why did you kill those men?"
"I was—"
She snapped. "You slaughtered them! God, Anneth!"
"They were going to hurt you. What else was I supposed to do to protect you?"
"I don't need your protection!"
But deep down, Fiona realized that she did need help. The woman lowered her head and sobbed quietly. It was horrible, but seeing people killed right before her eyes made it even worse.
Suddenly, Anneth hugged Fiona and whispered, "I'm sorry. I never meant to scare you."
Fiona said nothing and walked with Anneth, past the bodies. Five wasted lives, and Fiona wasn't sure if killing them was worth it.
They left the alley and hurried on before Troy and Ingo arrived
