Josh’s smile was like a lifeline in the chaos that had consumed my day. I was still pissed at him for what he had done with the whole merger thing but right now, I knew that I had to put that behind me. 

There were bigger things at play. I was not safe and I needed him. I did not smile back, I placed my phone back into the pocket of the jeans I was wearing and closed the distance between us. It looked like he was going for a run. 

It was almost noon, why was he now going for a run? And did he not have a company to run? Anyway, those were not the questions that mattered right now. “Someone is targeting me,” I started as soon as I was standing in front of him. 

His smile faded and then he chuckled dryly. “What are you talking about? And are you okay? You look pale, and not in the vampire way. You looked like you just came face to face with death.”
