Chapter 237. Buying Her Silence

The tension weighed heavy as I continued walking, the sleek black card in my pocket feeling like both a lifeline and a ticking time bomb. New York. Gosh, if not for Seattle, that city would be my first love. 

It would be a chance to start over, away from all of this madness. But the thought of running away while everything around me was still falling apart seemed wrong, it gnawed at my conscience. I could not abandon Mark and the others, not when all they were doing was trying to help me. 

But then again, this double life thing was risky and it was getting tiring. 

I crossed the street, each step bringing me closer to Josh’s mansion, where the threat of exposure loomed like a storm cloud ready to break. The maid’s wide eyes flashed in my memory, the way she nervously denied overhearing anything. 

But if she had heard me and had already gone to Josh, wouldn’t I have received a call from the guy by now?
