Chapter 239. Deep Sh*t

I stared at him, my mind racing. Not exactly legal? What the hell did that even mean? 

“Josh, what are you talking about?” I asked, setting my brush down and turning to fully face him. This was not the casual conversation I had been expecting. But again, was I even expecting a casual conversation? “You can't just say that and expect me to brush it off. What do you mean?” 

He sighed, running a hand through his hair. His calm and easy demeanor had faded a bit. “Look, it’s complicated but I want to tell you. The business deals I’m involved in… they're not black and white. There are certain rules we bend and certain laws we exploit. But it’s all to stay ahead in a world where everyone’s cutting corners.” 

I shook my head, trying to grasp what he was saying. “So you’re saying you’re part of something…illegal; that your company is not exactly legal?” I scoffed.
