Chapter 6
I wished the world would stop spinning so I could go over to him and touch him and know whether he was alright. What I feared the most had finally happened, and I didn’t know what to do.
Something thudded to the ground... Sam’s shoe, probably, and she rushed forward to pull him inside before slamming the door shut. I was still trying to gain control of myself, so I could only watch as she began fussing over him.
“Oh my God, are you okay?” She rushed as she traced her trembling hands all over him, undoubtedly at a loss of what to do or where to touch. Don looked between us like he was just seeing us for the first time, and the traumatized light in his gaze told of so much.
I warned you, Don. I told you to give it up.
Was he dying? Maybe. It’s probably the reason he’s staring like he doesn’t have a clue who and where he is. Someone was calling my name, but it didn’t matter. Don was bleeding to death right in front of me, and I couldn’t do anything to stop it.
