Chapter 8. Getting Started

Mary couldn’t make heads or tails of what the mysterious woman was talking about. She needed more answers. She pressed on with questions.

“What do you want me to do? How do you expect me to free myself from these bonds? If you are my grandmother, why not set me free?”

The mysterious woman chuckled. “You have no idea where you are, do you?” Her approaching footsteps echoed so deeply in Mary’s ears. “You are in a place called the ‘Veil.’ A boundary between the land of the dead and the land of the living. If you don’t use your gypsy power to set yourself free, your lifeless body in the real world will perish.”

Her words terrified Mary. She had never exercised such power before. Neither did she know she was a gypsy. She had no idea how to wield such power that would set her free from her captivity.

“I can’t do what you are asking of me,” a sob escaped her lips. “Just set me free.”

“Close your eyes and take a deep breath,” she whispered close to Mary’s ear.
