Chapter 6

Katy’s POV

“What? Why?” Amy bombarded her with questions, but I could only stare at her, reading the expression on her face. Mom going out of the country wasn’t a new thing to us. Heck, I’m even surprised she informed us beforehand. Sometimes, she just leaves without notice or anything.

“I was invited to a party by one of my friends, and it’s very important for me to go. So, I’m leaving as early as possible tomorrow,” she stated as if it was the best thing for her.

I didn’t say anything for the time being, letting the potatoes digest in my stomach. She went ahead to serve some for herself when I finally spoke up. “I got a job.”

For a split second, I saw the surprised look on her face. Maybe she wasn’t expecting me to get a job this soon. “Really? Do they pay well?”

“Mom.”

“What? I’m just asking. You can’t just work anywhere
