Chapter 5
Katy’s POV
Many thoughts ran through my mind as I embarked on my way back home. Some part of me was happy that I’d finally gotten a job, and some part of me was having negative thoughts, mostly about the lie. My phone vibrated in my purse, snapping me out of my short reverie. Darnell’s name flashed across the screen. She called at the right time.
“Hello,” I commenced, placing the phone to my ear. My voice came out almost as a whisper.
“Hey, dear, how— Wait, why is your voice so down? Is everything okay?” No matter what, she knows whenever something is bothering me. I cannot hide it from her.
“We need to talk, but I’m currently out now. I will call you when I arrive home.”
“Okay.”
I clicked the hang-up button and left the building, giving it a last glance, and then hailed a taxi. I rested my head back as the taxi man drove me to my house. One burden has been lifted
