Chapter 32
"You didn't tell me he was going to be here."
"It was a secret."
"Can I approach?" Evans asks as if I'm the owner of his life. I nod, shrugging. My brother and Jack got along really well when they met, so it's not surprising that they could become good friends now.
"Who is he?" Noah's question leaves me silent for a few minutes. For Evans, it doesn't carry the same weight as it does for me because he doesn't know what lies between us. I can't find a way to steer the conversation in another direction.
"He's Alana's ex-fiancé, isn't he handsome?" He laughs. "He's a great guy; when I met him, I knew someone so cool couldn't be with her."
Noah gives me a subtle look, unnoticed by my brother. After that, he laughs with Evans, as if deep down, he hadn't been hurt by me not telling him I'd be working with Jack. I know what he said, but I don't entirely trust it. I still believe Noah developed feelings for me, the kind of feelings I haven't been able to develop
