Chapter 30
Her skin heated suddenly, then rapidly became a tingling sensation like ants were crawling all over her. The unusual feeling demanded her attention, but she couldn’t think clearly as another wave of mindless dizziness swamped her. All she could do was stare down at the strange, feral child with confusion and struggle to break free of his hold on her.
She could have sworn his eyes were glowing, a savage wildness gleaming through the darkness trying to drag her down.
Her head spun sickeningly. The ground felt as though it was moving beneath her feet, pitching her forward and back, an angry sea in the midst of a storm. She swayed and tried to stay upright while her skin continued to heat, like it had been doused in ac*d. Instead of clearing the haze enveloping her mind, the pain only seemed to deepen the disorientation and weakness.
Without warning, the well of power surged in her chest, rebelling against whatever was happening.
