My eyes were fixed on his arms and biceps, and then they traveled up to his Adam's apple. For a moment, I regretted it, especially when he caught me staring. I cleared my throat and said, "I hope we can become friends during my stay here," as I extended my hand for a handshake. He hesitated to take my hand, but I knew the real reason for his hesitation.
"Just friends," he said emphatically, assuring me that what happened last night wouldn't happen again. "By the way, will you be okay being alone here for a day or two? I need to check something at the other plantation. They need me there," he suddenly said.
"Of course, why wouldn't I be alright?" I replied with a question, and he raised an eyebrow.
"Very well," he stated.
