Chapter 12. The Battlefield

The competition field was fenced with a metal fence and covered with magical vines on top, similar to the ones that protected the Academy.

"Why such protection?" asked Mina.

"I think they don't want the spectators to get hurt," Lyra guessed, glancing at the stands. There were all the curious onlookers of the Academy.

"I'll feel like I'm in a terrarium," sneered Mina.

"Not only you," Nathaniel chimed in.

Lyra didn't have a chance to attend the previous faculty's competitions, which she regretted now. Maybe she could have learned something about the mechanics of the competition.

At the entrance to the stadium, they were greeted by Professor Denbar and Adrian. They were referees and judges at the same time. They attached bracelets to each participant's wrists.

"What is this for?" Nathaniel asked, turning his hand and examining the trinket more closely.
