Luca’s POV

“Why is she taking so long?” I growled to myself, pacing up and down beside Dominic’s room. Every second felt like dragging on into a day since my patience had already worn thin. I cast my eyes at the door ahead because, inside my tummy, it stirred a tight protective feeling.

“Hey, Luca,” Jocelyn’s voice came from behind, “What is going on with you?”

I turned then to her, forcing a smile against the churning anxiety inside me. “Just waiting for Leila. She’s been in there forever.”

“Maybe Dominic is busy?” she said an unwanted grin spreading across her lips.

I clenched my teeth tight. “Busy? Doing what? They’re just talking.”

“Oh, I wouldn’t be so sure of that.” Jocelyn was leaning in, dropping to a conspiratorial whisper. “You know how Dominic gets when he’s jealous. You might want to go in there and remind him who Leila belongs to.”
