Chapter 53. A Fake Friendship

Leila’s POV

“Need a hand with that?” Mia’s voice chimed in from behind, breaking the silence in the kitchen.

My head jerked back and I spun around. Mia appeared at the door with her radiant smile, a smile that was starting to grow annoyingly common. “I’m fine, Mia,” I replied, turning my attention back to the vegetables I was chopping.

Nonsense, Mia said as she walked into the kitchen and picked up a knife off the counter. “Let me help. We used to do everything together before, remember?”

I nodded, hands still occupied cutting. “I remember.”

Saying in a cheerful tone as she continued to chop, “Those were short good times… I was your first friend when you newly came into the mansion. We were inseparable.”
