Chapter 57. Hidden Tensions

Leila’s POV

“Leila, over here!”

No sooner had we entered the hospital than my eyes went forward, and my heart leaped into flight as they fell on Dominic standing and waiting by the entrance. His body was casually leaning against the wall, his arms crossed over his chest, his eyes fixed on me and Luca with a severe intensity. There was something dark in his gaze, something intense that made the fine hairs at the back of my neck rise.

“Dominic,” I called brightly, but from the slight narrowing of his eyes, as they went to Luca, I knew all I needed to know. He wasn’t happy. Not one bit.

“Sorry we’re late,” Luca said offhandedly as he laid his hand lightly against the small of my back as we closed in on Dominic. “Traffic was a nightmare.”

Dominic said nothing immediately. Instead, he leaned off the wall and took a step closer in our direction, his eyes going to Luca. “I see,” he finally said, voice neutral, an undercurrent of ice running a shiver dow
