Chapter 76. Strange Happenings

Olive heard the commotion and anxiously pulled herself out of bed. What on earth was happening out there?

“Wayne?” she called out weakly, her lungs straining for air. “Wayne!” she tried again, forcing herself to take slow, deliberate steps forward. She kept walking until she reached the heavy bedroom door. The moment she pulled it open, she came face-to-face with him.

“Hey,” she murmured, and a familiar, mischievous smirk played on his lips.

“Missed me already?” he teased, his voice thick with playful arrogance. She rolled her eyes affectionately and glanced past him down the corridor.

“I thought I heard something break,” she noted.

“I accidentally knocked over a vase. That's all,” he shrugged, wrapping his arms securely around her waist. “It’s freezing out here in the hallway. Let’s get you back ins
