Chapter 38. Mystery Photo
“He likes me.” Sarah plucked another rose petal, and as she eyed the remaining two, she could hardly hold in her excitement. Her lips wobbled, pulling into a smile. She had been at it for a while, doing it over and over until her hands trembled against the soft gusts of the chilly winds and goosebumps scattered across her arms. But finally, the result would be exactly what she wanted.
“He likes me not.”
“He… likes me!” Unable to sit still, she lunged up, her hair whipping gently in the breeze as the very last petal flittered to the ground, joining the remnants of those she’d already shredded to bits. Her lips pulled wider, stretching into a huge grin. This was a cruel fuel to the hope rousing inside her but she was content with it, happy to welcome the thought that they even had a chance.
But her smile soon faltered, slowly disappearing when her thoughts took a turn. She had already learnt the hard way that expectation was only a self-inflicted wound and yet, here
