Chapter 8
Hawa’s POV
The next day, after we finished breakfast, Mama Rama called me to her room.
“Close the door, Hawa, and come and sit next to me here, please.”
I closed the door and went to sit next to her.
“My child, if I wanted to talk to you, it is, first of all, to apologize for the way things have been going. You are young, and you have the right to marry a man who loves you and whom you love. It was me who insisted that my brother Saliou, when his nephew died, made sure that you married my son. I had time to observe you during my visits to Kankan, and I liked your behavior a lot. Contrary to what you may believe, I am not the kind of mother-in-law who hates her daughter-in-law to the point of looking for a rival, but in this particular case, I find myself obliged to do so. Do you know why?”
“No, Mom.”
