Chapter 13. Grandpa’s Last Word

"Grandpa..." I was almost desperate as Grandpa didn't want me to cover him up. We walked and enjoyed the sunset around the hospital garden. I only found out about it when Grandpa mentioned there's a garden here. Somehow, he knew where to find a refreshing spot within this place.

"Grandpa isn't getting cold, Krystal."

I pouted. Even though this evening's air was bothering for Grandpa. The gentle evening breeze playfully rustled the branches of the trees surrounding the garden. With the help of a wheelchair, I guided him to breathe in the outdoor air. The doctor allowed it with a sympathetic smile.

My heart raced when the doctor clearly explained Grandpa's condition last night. We want to do our best, but if that spirit starts to fade, there's only so much the doctor can do. We can't hope for much. My body trembled as I gazed at Grandpa's peacefully closed eyes. Without burdens. His elderly smile looked beautiful, and... oh God... could it be that the time has come?<
