In a different place, Maya's childhood friend, Sophie stood with her hands folded.
"We don't have much time, so we can't waste it talking. You should eat and rest while you're able. Tomorrow, I'll come back to take you wherever it is they're going to try to kill you."
At first, he left her alone, but she wasn't content to spend the night in the empty room. She wandered around, looking at everything: the window, the fireplace, the bookshelf, the bed, and the small table beside it. Finally, she sat down at the table and grabbed a book from the shelf.
