Chapter 95. Avoid
"Who is she, Mama?" Amari asked.
"She's the owner of our new place," I answered.
"Our new place?" Amari inquired again.
"Yes, dear, our new home—"
"But we already have a home, right? At Papa's house?" she continued.
I couldn't answer. I fell silent until we got home. I don't know how will I answer her and thankfully, Amari didn't press further about it. She probably sensed that I didn't want to talk right now.
Carl and I startled each other in the kitchen when I went downstairs to get some water because we ran out of water upstairs.
"You go first," he said as we played an awkward game of chicken.
"Thank you," I replied, but I wasn't sure if he heard me because he left quickly after passing by.
