"Good morning," he forced a smile on his face.
I quickly closed the door, fearing that Amari might see him with me. At a young age, her mind might not be able to comprehend such a situation.
He raised the paper bag he was carrying. "I bought pastries. Have you had breakfast?" he asked. "Come on, let's eat these. They're getting cold."
I pulled him in, looking concerned. "Roy, what are you doing here?" I asked, trying to lower my voice.
He avoided eye contact and nodded slightly. "Just have them. They'll go to waste. I bought plenty," he said, chuckling, and handed me the bag.
I furrowed my brows as I looked at it. "Take it. There's no magic in there," he teased and placed it in my hand.
He playfully messed up my hair, irritating me, and I shot him a glance. He just smiled and turned to leave.
