Chapter 13
My ears were filled with cries and horrific sounds. Someone hurts. Blood's stench overwhelmed me. Oh, Mother, what is this?
The screams got louder, and the smell of blood grew as I hastily dressed as Hade and Juan remained transformed into their wolf forms. Wearing the billowing white garment Juan had hidden beneath the tree, I emerged to find the majority of the shifting wolves congregated in one section of the clearing.
The others and the source of the piercing screams remained concealed in the forest to my left. The fear that arose in waves from them was the same whether they had returned to human shape or not.
I glanced at Hade, who had moved to guard me, as Juan roared at the next generation of warrior wolves to gird their loins. The group had been thoroughly trained, even if they weren't yet considered warriors. In theory, everyone would be okay; they all started shifting with shouts and cries, still unfamiliar with the procedure.
