Chapter 27
Faith’s POV
[Flashback continues]
I didn’t understand what was happening anymore. The pain was different, and I knew then that it was time for my son to come out. A few more minutes passed, and the contractions kept coming, faster and faster. I followed with another hard push, just as the birthing specialist Cecille had taught me. My stomach was still being worked on when a woman wearing a white lab gown entered. She was carrying a black bag.
“Who are you?” I asked.
“I’ll be the one to help you give birth. The midwife isn’t here because she had to go back to the province,” she explained while arranging her things. “Spread your thighs now… push,” she ordered me.
Pain and suffering. I ignored the sweat and blood that poured out of me as I finally brought my little baby into the world. I saw him while she cut his umbilical cord. But maybe I passed out from the exhaustion.
