Chapter 24. Skepticism

Jake’s POV

I followed Maxwell to the council chambers, my heart pounding in my chest. I had never felt so nervous before a meeting. As we walked through the hallways, I took deep breaths, trying to calm my racing mind. I had to stay focused and present a clear, convincing case for bringing Milan to the pack.

We reached the door to the council chambers, and I felt a wave of anxiety wash over me. I took another deep breath and walked through the door. The room was large and imposing, with a long table surrounded by high-backed chairs. Sitting around the table were the members of the council, including Talia.

When I entered, the council members stood up and bowed to acknowledge my presence.

I returned their bow and then took my seat at the head of the table. I cleared my throat and began to speak.

“Thank you all for coming today,” I said, trying to project confidence. “As you know, I have recently discovered that I have a mate.
