Chapter 20. Desperation
Madison’s POV
I could not recall when sleep claimed, nor did I know it held me through the night until I opened my eyes to the first ray of sunlight seeping into the room through the drawn curtains.
Upon waking, my first thought was to check on Raymond, yet I realized to my dismay that there did not seem to be any form of improvement in his health.
A sinking feeling took hold of my chest, and I balled the fabric of the sheets tightly in my palm.
Just then, a flurry of figures rushed, and I recognized one of them to be Whitmore, the Physician from yesterday. Flanking him were two old men- One was thin and tall, like a pole, while the other was short and portly, a sharp juxtapose.
Behind them was Alex, whose gaze was fixated on Raymond.
Whitmore gave me a brief nod in recognition, and I returned with the same gesture.
“My lady, would you mind excusing us?” Whitmore requested, and I didn’t hesitate to nod, before walking out with Alex.
