My grandfather noticed me looking past him to stare at Serena, who was approaching behind him. He turned sharply and gave Serena a look that made her halt in her tracks and then walk away uncertainly.

“I should have known.” He mused under his breath like he’s finally gotten the final piece to a really complex puzzle.

“You should have known what?” I frowned disapprovingly at him.

“I should have known that she was your weakness!” He spat the words out bitterly. “Ever since you went and got married, you’ve left yourself vulnerable to enemies.
