Chapter 20

Jason’s Pov:

I had to force myself to control the rush of emotions in my veins. I felt pained when she said I was just a companion. Surely, there should be more?

“Just a companion? Nothing else? Nothing more?” I asked.

“There is…you are the beta of my pack, my friend. You made my life in this pack better for me. I find solace in you, and I appreciate your presence in my life. I am probably one of the least to behold your presence, Jason, but here you are, in my house. You ate from the same pot with me and treated me without any form of bias. What could be greater than all this?” she responded.

I smiled painfully.

“You are right. I should get going,” I stood up to Leave, and she bid me farewell.

I walked a few paces and turned. She had gone back inside. I sighed and battled with the thought of going back to her or not. I did not want to leave just yet, at the same I did not want to stay.

I had a mixed feeling and I wanted to be alone for now.
