Chapter 58

The telephone was ringing as she entered the apartment.

Alex had been calling ever since she left work that night. He just needed to hear her voice. It had been a bitch of an evening. His work was slowly draining his energy away. One hell of a work. When she picked up the phone, his stress went away.

“How did it go, darling?” he asked.

“All right,” Mary said. “She’s a nice woman, Alex. She wished me well and even offered me some materials that I may need during the research.”

“That’s great. I know she will do that. She’s a good friend of mine.” he remarked.

“When shall we meet again? Can I come over now or do you prefer to take you out for a date tomorrow?”

‘I might have chosen now.’ she muttered to herself.

She wanted to see him, to feel his arms around her, to be reassured once again that each other’s happiness took priority. But she was exhausted tonight. She couldn’t stand him.

“Alright. We both could use a night’s sleep, darling,”
