Chapter 21

Clary stood by the stairs as her heart bled. She should have been used to people calling her trash and good-for-nothing by now, but the pain still felt fresh and sharp each time it happened. 

A tear slid down her face and she wiped it away quickly as a maid walked past her. “Good evening, ma’am,” The maid greeted Clary. 

Clary sniffled and smiled even though her chest still burned from what she had just heard Levi’s sister say about her. “Good evening,” She replied. 

“Are you okay? Would you like me to get Alpha Levi?” 

“No!” Clary was quick to respond, not even missing a beat. “I’m fine, thank you,” She said in a small voice as she sniffled once more. 

“Are you sure?” The maid asked again. She could clearly see that the omega was not okay. 

Clary nodded. “Yes, thanks.” She forced a small smile.
