Chapter 114

I care. I always care. That’s my problem. Or maybe it’s a good thing, but I don’t know. It has landed me in sh*tty places. 

It was because I cared that Zayn, me, and my friends got involved with Harper and her mom. It was because I cared that Julia brought Jacob into our lives. It was because I cared that I let myself get played by my sister. 

I don’t regret that those things happened. In fact, I’m actually glad that they did. Those things brought bad with them but they also brought a lot of growth and good also. So, yeah.

I swung my legs from the bed slowly and they landed on the cold hardwood floor. It felt good feeling the smoothness and coldness of the floor under my feet. I gulped. “Is she–uh, is she dead?” I forced the words out. 

Zayn let go of my hand and stood to his feet. He shook his head slowly. “No, she is not. Zoe was shot in the arm, but it was nothing serious. She is perfectly fine now.”
