Chapter 129

I sat at the dining table with Liam as we were being served by the helpers. The chef had made us a special dish and the aroma swirled in the air, causing my mouth to water. 

I was starving and from the look on Liam’s face, I could tell that he was really hungry too. 

I had to end the call with Zayn because he said that his battery was low. But I did get his message: he wanted me to stay safe, for me to know that I was loved, and to remind me that the kids were in good hands. 

As I sat at the table across from Liam who was now digging in his food, anxiety choked me. I was expecting the detective to call at any minute. I was nervous about that but I was also very curious.

I was curious to know what the police knew and their plan concerning the hit and run.

“What’s wrong? You’re not touching your food. I thought you were hungry.” Liam said between bites. It looked like he was really enjoying his meal. “Is it about the detective?”
