Reluctantly, Andre stepped aside, though his eyes never left the cleaner. The other guards exchanged wary glances but eventually relaxed.
The man smiled gratefully and began mopping the floor, humming softly to himself. After a few moments, he glanced up at me. “You know, miss, you’ve got a beautiful smile. Bet it could light up a whole room.”
I couldn’t help but laugh. “That’s kind of you to say.”
“Kind? No, just honest,” he said with a wink. “A smile like yours doesn’t come around every day.”
Andre shot him a warning glare, but the man ignored it, continuing his work.
“Name’s Marco, by the way,” he said, pausing to wring out his mop. “Not that you asked, but I figured it’s only polite to introduce myself.”
