Jason's POV
I shook my head, forcing myself to push the thought away. No. Layla wouldn’t do that. She wouldn’t just… forget about me. But then, why didn’t she call? Why did she sound so different, so distant?
I ran my hand through my hair, my fingers tightening in frustration. I loved her. God, I loved her more than anything, but I didn’t know how to tell her. Not after everything that happened. Not after how I’d taken her away from her life.
Even if she forgave me, could she ever love me back? Or was I just fooling myself, holding onto a hope that was never mine to begin with?
The sound of small footsteps pulled me out of my thoughts. I looked up to see Little Jason standing there, his tiny face scrunched up with curiosity, his mother’s eyes staring back at me.
“Uncle Jason?” he called softly, his voice laced with hesitation.
I forced a smile, patting the spot next to me. “Hey, buddy. What’s up?”
