Chapter 17
"So I'm going to torture you with twelve uninterrupted hours of this movie," I spoke pompously, Edward laughed again. "But if you promise that you will make me happy this afternoon, I promise that I will watch twelve hours of SpongeBob so you are not afraid of anything."
"Combined," Edward said, reaching out to take mine in a friendly greeting. He didn't let go of my fingers right away. "But I don't think you should make so many plans."
I was on alert with that. Not by words. But by his tone of voice. By the way his fingers were little by little letting go of mine, as if he really wanted to keep holding me and holding on to that breath of hope. I hadn't even asked how he had spent the night before and the morning of that day. I didn't even worry about knowing how he was dealing with loneliness without his mother, and with death knocking on his door every day.
"Why are you saying that?" I ask
