Rose’s POV

I swallowed hard, feeling the tears welling up in my eyes. “I know. I just… I can’t lose him, Elise. I can’t.” I begged her.

“You won’t,” she said firmly, giving me a reassuring look. “We’re going to fight this, Rose. Together,” she said, giving me hope.

I nodded, trying to hold back the tears. “Thank you, Elise. I don’t know what I’d do without you.” I told her genuinely.

She gave me a small smile before turning back to Kanen, carefully administering the medication.

I watched her work, my heart aching with worry and fear. I had mixed feelings and didn’t know how to talk about them to put me at ease.

This wasn’t how things were supposed to be. Kanen was supposed to be the strong one, the one who kept us all safe.

Seeing him like this, so weak, was breaking my heart. It was shattering my heart into far many pieces than I could ever count or put back together.

Minutes felt like hours as Elise continued to care
