Elise's POV

I couldn’t shake the nervousness that troubles my chest as I worked beside Rose, attending to Alpha Kanen.

He was still unconscious, and though his pulse had steadied somewhat, I knew this was just a temporary stage.

As we sat by Kanen’s side, I could see the worry shown into every line of Rose’s face.

She was scared—more scared than I had ever seen her before.

It made me realize just how much she had been carrying all this time, the weight of keeping such a secret, of trying to find a cure all on her own.

But there was something else, something she hadn’t connected yet.

“Rose,” I began gently, breaking the silence that had settled between us, “there’s something I need to tell you.” I said slowly but to her hearing.

She looked at me, her eyes wide with concern. “What is it, Elise? Is it about Kanen? Is he…is he going to be okay?” she asked me hurriedly.
