Chapter 31. Human Rule
“Hey,” I murmured.
“Good morning, Precious.”
The sun blazed above us. It was clear for the world to see we’d spent the night out here.
“We probably should have gone inside,” I said.
He grabbed my hip and pulled me closer. “It’s beautiful out here. Just like you.”
Marcel picked up the heart-shaped necklace on my chest and thumbed it over.
“You’re always wearing this.”
“Yeah, it belonged to my Mother. She left it behind when she divorced my Dad.”
Marcel set it down and nodded. “Have you heard from her since?”
I shook my head. “I barely remember her. I wanted to look for her but what’s the point? It’s been so long she left without a second thought of her three kids.”
