Chapter 23
Grace’s POV
His words were cold and hard, but I resolved it was better than deluding myself with the thought that he liked me. He was simply in love with the efficient and competent babysitter he found.
“Thank you, sir,” I said, adding the sarcastic barb to hurt him as much as I was hurting. “Does that mean I’m getting my job back soon?”
His eyes gleamed with a strange light, and then he muttered softly, “We will see about that.”
“Good night, Kelvin.” Without a second glance, I turned and hurried upstairs to my bedroom. Once I locked the door, I slipped to the floor and let the tears fall quietly down my cheeks.
“I love you, Kelvin. I love the kids, and I love their dad even more.” I muttered these words to the empty room, aware the man who needed to hear them was downstairs.
