Chapter 24. Protection
“Fiancée?” Uncle Vincent’s eyes widened. “What’s that supposed to mean? Isn’t office romance against the rules?”
“Sasha’s resigning soon. That means I’m free to propose and make her my fiancée, and it’s got nothing to do with you!” Mr. Rey declared loudly. “You’d better leave now, because the police are on their way. You don’t want your name dragged through the mud over this, do you, Mr. Gray?”
Mr. Rey’s threat shut Uncle Vincent up. No way he’d risk his reputation and his shiny new hotel over something so petty, right? *Hotel Owner Assaults Employee.* Not exactly a headline he’d want.
“I’ll go… for now,” Uncle Vincent said, glaring at me, Noah, and Mr. Rey in turn. “We’ll finish this later.”
With that, he stormed out of my apartment. Turns out, Mr. Rey hadn’t actually called the police—it was just a bluff. But it worked. Without it, Uncle Vincent would’ve never left.
