Chapter 52

Chantal’s POV

“Rise and shine,” Mateo said and kissed my cheek, then roused me from my sleep. I observed that it was still a little dark outside, but I got to my feet.

As I hurriedly got up to drink water, I realized we were in a different house, and I spit the water, thinking I was at a strange place because I didn’t recognize it.

“Perhaps you’re too weary, and that’s why you didn’t wake up the entire trip,” he speculated as he sipped his tea.

But I didn’t pay attention to him because I was aware that I was still not a part of what was going on around me. I was sleeping soundly, and I was awakened by his exuberant cry as if he were excited.

“Can you tell me where we are?” I inquired of him while lying down and preparing to return to sleep, but he stood me up and assisted me in walking again.

I’m not sure why he was still dressed in a tuxedo, but I was in shorts and a t-shirt and thought that maybe he just finished his report.
